Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
Does it favour the bigger teams?

Still don't see the point in Moyes - Downs / coventry subs . Did any of them actually kick the ball.

Was he doing it to prove he could do 5 subs ?

I think we will suffer with this. A lot of coaches change things mid game by the tactical use of subs, David Moyes doesnt do this, most of his changes are forced as a result of injuries.

See my post last Saturday! I really cannot believe we had 2 keepers and 3 kids on the bench Sunday, it beggars belief. With a big program coming up we are in a worse position than last season despite promises to increase the strength of our pathetically small squad by 8/9 players. When the hell are we rid of gsb and when will moyes stop dithering ??

John Lyall would still have waited until the 88th minutes to bring a sub on.

I'm looking forward to seeing which club is the first to bring on all for substitutes at once. Will probably take about six minutes for them all to get on the field.

Might have been more interesting if they'd also allowed subbed players to be re-introduced in a later substitution.

Say you went one up in the first 20 minutes, subbed your best striker, then brought them back on for the last 10. Surely that would help some of the lesser teams with fewer top quality players to select from.

Do we have five premier league capable subs or should I bring my boots on the off chance of a game?

Love that he gave 2 youngsters 1 minute of the game yesterday when 2-0 down, gave them a great chance of making an impression.

Agreed this favours clubs with unlimited resources and is a very bad thing. Means the gulf between top and the rest will widen. What’s the point of competition if it’s not on a level playing field ?

It will be used to break up play and run down the clock in injury time by some clubs

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
It massively favours the bigger teams who can now replace more of their 60 million quid starters with more of their 60 million quid subs if some of them are having an off day.

That ‘big six’ have such ridiculous strength in depth that they can make a lot of changes without dropping in quality. Keeping all their players fresher through the season whereas the other 14 clubs simply can’t have that depth. Just tips the scales ever further in their balance.

Too complicated for The Ditherer Moyes...

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
I remember last season when in one game we had 3 keepers and 2/3 youngsters on the bench. The way our transfer business is progressing it could happen again this season. I despair at the promises fans are given and we are then let down, again and again. We will be lucky to ever have 5 decent subs on the bench!

Moyes was asked about using 5 subs this season in his press conference.
Reckons at the moment he is planning to use one tomorrow, 2 in October and the last 2 in the last few weeks of the season.

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
The number of subs has hurt Rugby - not sure it's good for football. Fitness levels and commitment over the full game were a way in which potentially lesser skilled teams could win.

In Rugby you now get the huge beasts being subbed out after 50-60 minutes so they don't have to be fit enough to play a full game - so they have ballooned in size to the point where for the most part it's difficult to tell the difference between backs and forwards.

More subs will just give an even greater advantage to those clubs that can afford to stuff not only the pitch, but also the bench with world class talent.

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
I t wont favour us we would need 5 players Moyes actually wants to put on the pitch from the bench.

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
I will look forward to 5 subs if we have 5 good quality players to use. We don't have that naw do we.

Obviously it will be better for teams that actually have quality subs to bring on, to either change the way they are set up or to bring on fresh legs and maintain the quality of the team.

Yeah I know that, obviously. These 5 subs can only be made on 3 separate occasions during the match. Get it?

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
I don't mind it, though I think it obviously does favour clubs with more high quality players (ie. the richer ones) for obvious reasons.

The rule change I want to see trialled is having the game on a stopwatch to make timewasting harder.
